Siegfried Schmid, also known as Sigi Schmid, is a German-American football manager. Sigi Schmid is best known for his work with the Seattle Sounders and Los Angeles Galaxy football clubs.

Early life

Sigi Schmid was born on March 20, 1953, in Tübingen, western Germany, in the sign of Pisces. His full name is Siegfried Schmid. Fritz and Doris were his parents when he was born. When he was four years old, he and his parents moved to the United States. Although he has lived most of his life in America, he speaks German at home.

Similarly, he finished his high school and high school education in the United States, with many ups and downs due to his poor knowledge of English. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in business administration. After graduating, he worked as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for eight to nine months.

Sigi began playing professional football in 1972 after enrolling at UCLA. He was the Bruins’ first midfielder until 1975. After he joined, the UCLA Bruins were able to claim a runner-up spot for their first two seasons.

In 1975 he was named to the All Far West team later in his senior year. He finished his UCLA career as the school’s 11th all-time assist leader.

He began coaching Bishop Montgomery High School in 1975 and later founded the South Bay Vikings team. He served as an assistant coach at UCLA under Steve Gay from 1977-1979. After Gay left in 1980, he was named head coach. Soccer America magazine awarded him Coach of the Year in 1984. He was UCLA’s head coach until 1999.

He then became the head coach of Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy in 1999, a role he held until 2004. He finished his career with the Los Angeles Galaxy with a 79-53-32 overall record and a 16-7-3 playoff record. He was named the Seattle Sounders FC’s first manager in 2009. Similarly, he left the club in 2016 when he was replaced by assistant coach Brian, and went on to work as a studio analyst for ESPN. Sigi was named the LA Galaxy’s new coach on July 27, 2017. He resigned from Galaxy in September 2018 after a difficult 2018 season.
