Howie Long is a former professional football player, actor, and sports analyst from the United States. In addition, Howie Long has played in a defensive end position for the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders and has appeared as an actor in several films such as Broken Arrow (1996) and Firestorm (1998).

Early life

Howard Matthew Moses Long, better known as Howie Long, was born January 6, 1960 in Somerville, Massachusetts, in the United States of America. From now on he is 62 years old and is a citizen of the United States. Additionally, he has a Capricorn birth sign and is a Roman Catholic by religion.

He is the son of Howard Long Sr (father) and Margaret Kirk (mother). He also had a sister named Ann Marie Long. Unfortunately, Ann 2016 has expired. He was also raised in Charlestown, Boston.

Speaking about his academic background, he studied at Milford High School in Milford. He later enrolled at the University of Villanova and received a degree in Communications in 1981. In high school, he was a basketball player, track star, and boxing champion for Northern Collegiate. Speaking about his professional career, he got his start in the NFL when he was selected in the second round of the 1981 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. There he played 13 seasons for the Oakland Raiders as a defensive end position.

He was the MVP of the 1980 Blue-Gray Game at Villanova, where he was a letterman for four years. His NFL career peaked in 1983 when he had 13 sacks, including a career high five against the Washington Redskins on October 2, 1983. He was named to John Madden’s All-Madden teams in 1984 and 1985, and in 1994 he was named it to the All Madden 10th Anniversary Team.

He was named NFL Alumni Defensive Lineman of the Year and NFLPA AFC Defensive Lineman of the Year in 1985. He capped his remarkable 1985 season by winning the George S. Halas Trophy as the NEA’s Co-NFL Defensive Player of the Year (along with Andre Tippett). He was also named Seven Crown NFL Defensive Player of the Year by the Seagrams. In 1986, he was selected to the Pro Bowl for the fourth straight season after helping the Raiders record 63 sacks and become the AFC’s number one defensive tackle.

John Madden, who is also a former football coach and sportscaster, voted Howie to the All-Madden teams in 1984 and 1985, and in 1994 he was named to the All-Madden 10th Anniversary team. He missed the 1988 season through injury, but still managed three bags and the first pass of his career, gaining 73 yards in a game against the Houston Oilers.

After retirement

After retiring from basketball, he got involved in acting, mostly focusing on acting in action movies. He was a lead actor in the first film, Firestorm, released in 1998. He also co-starred with actor John Travolta in the mystery film Broken Arrow.

Howie Long’s best known films were Broken Arrow which was released in 1996, Firestorm which was released in 1998 and 3000 Miles to Graceland which was released in 2001. He also works in advertising and has appeared on several television shows Commercials. He has also endorsed national and multinational corporations such as Taco Bell, Kraft, Honda, Coca-Cola, Nike, Pepsi and most recently Chevrolet and General Motors. Howie also did voice work for Radio Shack, appearing in commercials alongside actress Teri Hatcher. In 2007 he published a book entitled Football For Dummies, which is part of Wiley Publishers’ For Dummies series.
